Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division II State Champions
After finishing the conference schedule with a 14-0 record, the Immanuel Baptist School varsity boys basketball team won the Michigan Association of Christian Schools Division II State Championship for the second time in 4 seasons.
After a tough loss in the State Championship last season, Coach Tony Nash and his team set out to bring the trophy back to Immanuel from the very first practice. With an intense focus on defense, conditioning and player roles, the Immanuel Fire went into the tournament as the #1 seed. In the quarterfinals, Immanuel beat 2016 D1 State Champs Lakecrest Baptist Academy and then beat 2016 D2 State Champs Bridgeport Baptist Academy in the semifinals. They went on to defeat Community Baptist of Saginaw in the championship game 65-48. Led by senior point guard Josiah Levesque who had 34 points and 5 steels and senior center Alex McNally who had 13 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Junior Jackson Levesque added 7 points and 10 steals and senior Colton Silvers finished with 7 points and 3 steals. “Although we are losing 7 seniors, our focus will be to get back and defend our title in 2018” stated coach Nash.
The Immanuel Baptist Girls Varsity Team led Coach Jason Georges and by seniors Hannah Phillips, Audrey Benko, Avery Gibson and Christianna Bruce also ended the regular season with the number one seed and finished as state runner-ups after an overtime semifinals victory.
